Fraunhofer IFF Elbedome - 360° immersive projection

The Elbedome is a mixed reality laboratory for the large-scale display of interactive visualizations. Due to its enormous dimensions compared to classic projection systems, the Elbedome is particularly suitable for the demonstration of large objects such as machines and systems on a scale of 1:1 or for the visualization of entire factories or even cities. The shape of the Elbedome roughly corresponds to the lower part of a halved sphere with a diameter of 16 m. It constists of a 360° panorama and floor projection surface, which makes it possible to move realistically and to scale in virtual worlds.

Space M was commissioned with the planning, delivery and system integration of the projection system – consisting of 25 high-resolution 4k laser projectors with 3D stereo capability.

  • Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation IFF, Magdeburg on behalf of Carl Zeiss Jena GmbH

  • Reconstruction and upgrade of the 360° projection screen.

Design, construction and integration of a 25-channel 3D stereo laser projection system for the Elbe Dome 2.0:

    • mixed-reality laboratory with 400m² large projection surface

    • cylindrical 360° screen (diameter of 16m, height of 4m)

    • Seamless floor projection.
